Yield to God

yield-to-God

What does it mean to yield to God? Why should we yield our lives to God? And how to we actually go about yielding?

In order to be saved, we need to yield our lives to Jesus as Lord. That means we need to let Him lead us, so that we are obeying Him from the heart. When we yield to God, He begins to transform us and pour His love into us so that we can love others.

You must yield your life directly to Jesus. You do not need to only live by the “letter of the law” but by the “spirit of the law.” Scripture is one way to get to know God, but if you never connect directly with God, you don’t have a personal relationship. If you love and adore Scripture but refuse to yield to God directly, you are no better than the Pharisees who Jesus said were sons of hell and a brood of vipers. They technically obeyed Scripture but lived only for themselves. Their lives were not yielded to God.

“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about Me, yet you refuse to come to Me that you may have life.” John 5:39-40 ESV

Don’t let Scripture be an impediment to block your relationship with God. True prayer is opening your life to God, asking Him to rule over you. This is an inward thing; you’re inwardly opening and allowing God to take control of you.

Yes, yielding only to Scripture and not to God Himself will keep you powerless as you seek to fulfill the law with your own strength instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to convict you of sin. If you do not yield to the Holy Spirit, you will twist Scripture to justify sin. This is because your heart doesn’t really know God because you aren’t connected.

Jesus came to tear the veil into the Holy of Holies, so that we could have communion directly with God. When Jesus says, “Depart from Me; I never knew you…” people who loved Scripture but never yielded to God directly will scream in anguish that they never had a personal relationship. If you have been transformed in miraculous ways into the image of Christ, you are saved. If you have not been changed and transformed, ask God to help you yield to Him directly and begin to get rid of sin in your life.

Drawing with a 3D Pen

February 28th, 2016

drawing-with-a-3d-pen

I received an AtmosFlare 3D pen for free and was compensated for an honest review.

When I found out this AtmosFlare 3D pen existed, my kids wanted me to get it so that we could make 3D sculptures. It comes with red and blue ink cartridges, so we ordered a few more colors before we got started. They have 12 colors to choose from: red, light pink, pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black, gray, and white.

Putting the ink cartridge into the pen was pretty self-explanatory, as I show you in the video demonstration below. You take the cap off the ink cartridge and screw on the nozzle. Then place the cartridge into the pen. The colorful instruction pamphlet is simple and easy to understand. A battery is included, which I thought was nice.

I used black card stock paper as the base for each of the 3D sculptures. Black makes a good contrast for taking photos of your sculptures and ensures that your table doesn’t get junk stuck to it.

Drawing with a 3D Pen (Video Demonstration)

Here is our first attempt using the AtmosFlare 3D pen for creating sculptures. We figured out at the very beginning that you don’t want to sculpt too fast. But no worries if you make mistakes: just pinch it off like I show you in this video:

Tips for Using the AtmosFlare 3D Pen

If you watched the demonstration video above, you will get a feel for the pen before it arrives in the mail. These are a few tips we would give someone who is trying it for the first time:

  • For your first sculpture, try making a straight line starting from the bottom and working your way up. When you do this, you will see how fast you can go to make a solid straight line. The slower you go, the thicker the line.
  • You can pinch off all your mistakes, so don’t be scared.
  • All designs need to begin at the bottom and move upward, obviously. It might be easier to grab a real item and place it in front of you. We had a real lantern to look at when attempting to sculpt a lantern.
  • When turning a corner, don’t turn too fast or it will be too thin and start sagging. Don’t turn too slow or the sculpture will stick to the nozzle. I used an empty nozzle on the table to cut the nozzle away from the sculpture. Then wipe the nozzle off with a baby wipe or wet paper towel to make sure it is not sticky so that you can continue.
  • I noticed my kids occasionally wiped off the pen on the card stock paper instead of using a wipe. I think the wipe is more effective because all of the stickiness is removed.

Make a Tree with an AtmosFlare 3D Pen

To make a tree, begin with a brown tree trunk. Starting at the bottom, make lines upward until you have the desired thickness for your tree trunk. Branch off around the middle of the tree to add interest. Then make smaller and smaller branches until it looks like a spectacular winter tree.

Switch to a green cartridge. Now make green leaf blobs on the branches. As soon as it’s filled out, you are finished with your tree. (Watch how my son sculpts a tree in the video above.)

Make a Crown with an AtmosFlare 3D Pen

To make a crown, start with a simple head band. Make your first small arch in the center of the headband. The easiest way to make an arch is to do a vertical line, another vertical line, and then join the two together at the top. Whenever I made an arch in one swoop, it didn’t look as good as the ones I made with two vertical lines first before the horizontal line.

Make these loops all the way along the front of the head band. Make three taller loops on the front at the top. Grab some purple ink and make a rose in the front center. Grab the yellow ink and make dots along the bottom to look like jewels. Now your crown is finished.

Here is a crown my 10-year-old daughter made. It has an insect theme:

Rachels-3D-crownShe wanted me to make her a beautiful princess crown, so I made her the loopy one to make her happy. The 3D pen box says Ages 14+, but my 10-year-old daughter got better at it when she made this flower:

One of my sons created this spaceship. I thought it looked cool.

Our experience with the 3D pen was super fun. If you have extra ink cartridges from the very beginning, you can play with it for a while before making an actual sculpture.

Praying for Your Family is Crucial

February 26th, 2016

praying-for-your-familyWhy is praying for your family crucial? Because if you do not pray for your family members, maybe no one else will.

Do you think your spouse and children will become the godly people that God requires them to be if no one prays for them? Maybe the enemy has convinced you that your prayers will not make a difference, so you’ve purposely decided not to pray.

Consider that God commands us to pray throughout Scripture, and that our prayers are a sweet aroma to the Lord (Psalm 141:2). God delights in answering our prayers (Proverbs 15:8). If we ask God for bread, will He give us a scorpion? (Matthew 7:9) No! He gives good gifts to those who ask. And who better to bless than the members of your own family, the ones living under the same roof with you?

Pray for each of your children by name, along with their character weaknesses. You will be surprised when God begins to work in those weak areas because you have committed those areas to God. Ask God how your child can overcome those areas, and if you are struggling with the same sin (like anger, for example), ask God to purge it from your life first. Then your child will see how God transforms lives in a tangible way. You can explain exactly how God set you free from the same sin, so that your child can be set free as well.

Eye Model Cake

February 22nd, 2016

eye-model-cake

When you are studying the eye in human anatomy, why not make an eye model cake? First you will need to bake a circular cake with two baking tins. I recommend yellow cake with strawberry jelly between the two layers. (Don’t try to place jelly in the middle until the cake has completely cooled!)

How to Decorate an Eye Model Cake

  1. Frost the cake with white frosting.
  2. Open another bucket of vanilla frosting and divide it into four bowls, using food coloring to get the colors you want. (I only used three bowls: one for red frosting, one for blue, and one for green. I had a tube of black frosting left over from an Ugly Sweater Cookie Kit from Christmas, so I used that for the black.)
  3. Spread the blue frosting like a rainbow, and the green frosting next to it. The blue would represent the ciliary body, and the green the iris. Leave the lens white.
  4. Put the red frosting into a Ziplock bag and cut a hole in the corner. Make veins and arteries throughout the vitreous humor. You can use blue frosting, too, instead of just red frosting.
  5. Surround the entire cake with a black outline, except for the pupil, which is where the light comes into the eye.

You are now finished making your eye model cake. Have fun eating it!
