I found an Easy Bake Oven at a yard sale for one dollar. It looked pretty new, and it still had packets of cookie and cake mixes. (There was another Easy Bake oven at the same yard sale that was disgusting with decayed food in it!) Anyway, I bought the good one, and my daughter was thrilled about it.

The oven worked! The packets were still sealed, and I knew that they were okay. (I looked for the expiration dates.) So my daughter has been baking tiny cookies and cakes for the last few days. She is having a ball. Water is the only ingredient to add. You stir it, put it in a greased pan, and place it into the oven that has been pre-heated. Most things take about 11 minutes to bake. Then you push it through to the other side with a strange-looking stick that looks like a rounded “Y.”

Unfortunately, because it requires supervision, it is not something that I want to do all the time. My energy is not unlimited. The amounts of food are so tiny that it’s not worth the effort. If I’m going to grease a pan (albeit small) and wash the mixing bowl and spoon, I might as well make a bigger batch and actually be full afterward. The scones my daughter made today for her tea party were so small that a tiny dab of jam hardly even fit on top. In the same amount of time, I could have made a dozen scones. Plus, the thing is bulky. You know how I am with organization: don’t keep anything you don’t use all the time. So I’m not sure how long we will be keeping this. But for now, my daughter is enjoying herself tremendously. I might just have to get rid of my waffle maker to make space for it after all.
