You Know You’re Getting Older When…

You Know You’re Getting Older When…

  1. You think the bags under your eyes are a sign that you’re tired. They’re not. Those bags are here to stay.
  2. You call your child every name but his, and then say, β€œWhat’s your name? Don’t lie to me, because you live here, and I’ll find out!” (My husband must have gotten that line from a movie.)
  3. You have two cups of coffee in the morning and still feel like you’re asleep.
  4. Once you’re downstairs, you forgot why you went down there.
  5. You keep waking up during the night for no apparent reason.
  6. You see gray hairs growing out of your head, pluck them out one by one, and look around the corner to make sure your husband is still under the delusion that you’re a young thing.
  7. After having a fabulous time with your husband the night before, you wake up having thrown out your back.
  8. You no longer care that there are toys all over the floor. You just kick them to the side, and that’s good enough.
  9. You start backing out the driveway only to realize you forgot to open the garage door. (Don’t laugh… This actually happened to me.)
  10. And now for number 10. Drum roll please… Someone says to you, β€œRemember when…” and you really don’t remember.

Regarding #2 – my grandmother was always yelling at one (or all three) of her boys. She eventually starting using all three of their names because most of the time more than one was involved in whatever was going on. Over time, she just started using all three names for anything – even when they weren’t in trouble – but it was too much to say, so she shortened it to “sweeties” for all three, or “sweetie” for just one. Eventually everyone started calling HER “Sweetie” – even the grandkids.

    #6 – Shhh…I won’t tell. Promise… πŸ™‚

Thanks for the reply comment….about Poe, I think he is more psychological than true horror. Kind of like a lot of Hitchock. The stories are just as much about the associations that the mind makes as they are about the actual facts of the stories, you know? Some definitely have horror elements, but they are so well crafted that I think the psychological takes over. I adore Poe!

Too funny, I can relate to all of these, especially about number 3. I have two boys and I either call them each others name or forget completely πŸ™‚ Look forward to your future posts!
