I got up this morning and was making coffee. My 9-year-old son was sitting there, doing nothing. “How come you’re not doing your math?”
“I finished it at 3 o’clock this morning.”
“What?! Did you go back to bed?”
“Yes.”
“Did you go back to sleep again?”
“Yes.” His eyes glazed over as he stared at the floor.
“Don’t do that any more,” I said.
“Okay.”

Math??!! He must have been really desparate to get back to sleep!
I think he wanted to get ahead on his math so that he wouldn’t have to do it in the morning!
Oh my! I know this post is over a year old but bless his little heart. Does he make a habit of burning the midnight oil?
No, this was the first and last time he ever did something like this. I think he was trying to brainstorm how to get his math done faster.
This is so funny and it sounds like my son! LOL
I don’t think I could ever do something as brainy as math in the middle of the night! Our kids are funny sometimes!
Hey Susan, does your son still hate math? What did you do, or are doing, to resolve this? My son avoids math, trying every way imaginable to get out of doing it every day. I understand the distaste, but it has to get done.
Ever since I switched to Teaching Textbooks, math hasn’t been so much of a struggle because the computer program is like a cartoon, and it can explain any math problem that he doesn’t understand.
Ahh yes, I switched over to teaching textbooks in grade10, and math time was much more enjoyable.I would definitely recommend it, at least in the older grades.
