Why not make a resurrection cake to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus on Easter? It’s super easy to make. First you will want to bake a cake of any flavor. Frost the cake with chocolate frosting to represent dirt. Grab some Kit Kat chocolate bars, or similar cookies or chocolates that you can break apart to form crosses. I tried to stand them up, but unless you glue the pieces of the cross together, it will fall apart. It’s simpler just to lay them down.
A piece of Kit Kat fell apart on the counter, and it looked like the sign that would have been above the cross of Jesus, the one that would have said, “King of the Jews.” So I glued it with chocolate frosting to the top of the center cross.
I bought a package of chocolate Ding Dongs, and I used one for the tomb, setting it on its side. I used a white powdered doughnut for the rolled-away stone. Your cake is ready to serve!

The Easter Dress Story

You will love my Easter dress story because you will realize that God is closer to us than we can imagine. He cares about each detail of our lives and is able to provide abundantly beyond all that we could ask or think.
My story begins a few weeks ago when I saw a beautiful Easter dress at Costco. It was perfect for my daughter. I sighed and put it back on the rack. I never buy new clothes for myself or for my children because resale shops are so much more affordable.
Even if I had the money, I would not buy it because money is limited. I either want to use extra money for something of eternal value, or for a refreshment for my marriage (like a getaway), or as an investment in my homeschool speaking ministry (my family business includes product creation, which costs thousands of dollars a year to produce). There is never enough money to do everything. I see money like a giant chess game, where I want to maximize each move to bring the most real joy into our lives.
So I left the Easter dress on the rack.
Fast forward a week. A friend of mine was meeting me at the river to go for a walk because of the nice weather. When we arrived, she asked me what size Rachel was, because she had a dress that was too small for her daughter, and she thought it might fit Rachel. It was brand new.
I said sure, that we could look at it after our walk. So off we went for a walk, where I enjoyed sweet fellowship in the Spirit. When we got back to the parking lot, my friend opened her car and showed me the dress.
I had a shocked expression.
That was the exact dress that I wanted at Costco the week before, that I had carefully put back on the rack. And here God was giving it to me through this woman who was obviously prompted by God to offer me the dress.
I was speechless.
This just goes to show how great God is. He is so near. He paid attention to a small detail in my life. I’ve shared with you about how God provided for my needs back when we had no money and a ton of debt. Well, this was different. I didn’t pray about it, but God gave it to me anyway because He knew the desires of my heart.
“Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4 ESV)
Crown of Thorns

To understand the suffering that Jesus endured before going to the cross, you can make a crown of thorns. Don’t even try to do this with children, or they will cry. Make it yourself, and then have the children gently touch the thorns to understand the pain that comes from being pricked by thorns.
You will need rose stems, kitchen shears, and hot glue. Clip off some stems from your rose bushes, especially in the late fall when you need to cut them back anyway. You might want to wear gloves. I didn’t. As I made this simple 5-minute craft, I was choked up because I imagined what it must have felt like to wear a crown of thorns and have the crown pushed down on your head. Of course, blood dripped from the head of Jesus when this happened.
Strip off the leaves, and cut small sections of the thorny rose stems. Now hot glue them into a circle. You are finished.
This was the most painful craft I’ve ever made, but I’m glad that I did it without gloves because I feel closer to my Savior, who suffered unspeakable agony on the cross just so that I could be saved from my sin.
