High School Psychology Series

high-school-psychology-series

What a fun time we’ve had learning high school psychology! We’ve done so many hands-on activities, including: making a vegetable brain, a play doh brain, and a play doh neuron; placing foods on a tongue map; doing a perception activity involving snapping pictures of being chased by a car; drawing a large colorful chart of our basic needs; moving stuffed animals to re-enact various concepts; and performing many fascinating skits–sometimes involving costumes and props, and in one instance, a live cat.

We have thoroughly enjoyed using the psychology curriculum from 7 Sisters that you can find here: {affiliate link} Introduction to Psychology from a Christian Perspective.

Hands-on Psychology Activities

I thought I would make it easier for you by creating an index or table of contents for all these fun psychology activities you can do:

Psychology Bloopers

We also have some psychology blooper videos, if you need some merriment in your life:

Since homeschool parents need to buy curriculum for their high school students anyway, and psychology is one of your standard half-credit high school electives (it’s a one-semester course), you might as well purchase the curriculum here: {affiliate link} Introduction to Psychology from a Christian Perspective.

Here are my top ten most popular blog posts from 2016:

Hands-on Learning Series:

I baked a series of educational cakes that was highly popular this year. From science and history cakes to literature and math cakes, there was something for everyone! Next time your loved one has a birthday, take a look at one of these original cakes.

I also did a fun series of physics experiments, which included flying pizzas, spinning cookies, and infrared cameras.

Human Anatomy Posts

We studied human anatomy last year both in elementary and in high school. My kids had a ball creating the following hands-on projects, which were highly popular on social media:

High School Post

I wrote a blog post about what I’m using this year for high school homeschool curriculum. Most homeschool bloggers cover elementary, but for some reason they don’t blog about high school as much. I believe this is why this post was so popular this year:

Mixing with the Masters Posts

My kids painted loads of beautiful paintings this year while studying the classical painters. Here were the two posts that got the most attention:

Spiritual Posts

I wrote a lot of spiritual posts last year, especially about how to connect to God through prayer. But my most popular posts, as always, include hands-on ideas:

And there you have it! Those were my most popular blog posts from 2016. If you missed any of them, now you have a chance to see the ones that really resonated with my readers!

We had a great time learning about Elementary Physics, using the book Christian Kids Explore Physics by Bright Ideas Press. Here is a quick index of the different experiments we performed for you on video, to help you as you study this subject.

The first unit of this book is called “The Foundations of Physics.” It describes what physics is all about; how to measure distance, time, temperature, and weight; and it familiarizes us with famous physicists. Here is a demonstration of how we see physics all around us:

The second unit is “Matter.” If you have taken Elementary Chemistry, you can skip these chapters, which are a review of chemistry. If you have not taken Christian Kids Explore Chemistry, here are the experiments from this physics book that you will need:

The third unit is “Mechanics,” where we learned about force, gravity, work, friction, and energy. Here are the video demonstrations we performed to learn about mechanics:

The fourth unit is “Matter in Motion,” where we learned all about motion:

The fourth unit is “Energy in Motion,” where we learned about electromagnetic energy, light, color, heat, and sound:

The last unit is “Electricity and Magnetism.” Here are a couple of experiments that we did for this unit, in order to understand electricity and magnetism:

These fun experiments are from the book Christian Kids Explore Physics by Bright Ideas Press. We really enjoyed studying physics in such a hands-on way. Why not study physics with your own kids by grabbing a copy of this book?

31 Days of LEGO Unit Studies

31-days-lego-unit-studies

My kids have always loved playing with LEGOs, so 31 Days of LEGO Unit Studies sounded like a good series for me to do. We have come up with a lot of fun projects I’ve never seen before. My kids surprise me by building what we are studying out of LEGOs. They’ve had a great time learning many of their academic subjects over the years through LEGOs. Here are some of the LEGO creations we’ve put together over the years, and we will be adding to this index during the next few weeks:
