Most Popular Blog Posts from 2017

Monday, January 8th, 2018

These popular blog posts include spiritual posts, hands-on learning activities, travel adventures, and themed cakes. The ages range from early childhood to high school.

My top ten most popular blog posts from 2017:

Cool Themed Cakes:

  • Dry Ice Volcano Cake: Watch this active volcano erupt with rolling smoke!
  • Army Tank Cake: This is the most awesome cake ever for boys. It came out even better than I envisioned, and we lit a sparkler at the front of the tank.

Hands-on Learning for High School:

Travel Posts

  • Our Guatemala Adventure: God provided miraculously for us to visit the land of my childhood. My family had the opportunity to meet our Compassion child. Enjoy the virtual tours of a jungle, a castle, a boat ride, and zip-lining!

Spiritual Posts

I wrote two exciting series this year, with accompanying videos for each. As the days grow darker spiritually, we need to know who we are in Christ and how the enemy works:

  • 31 Days to Regaining Your Identity: Know who you are in Christ. You are accepted, loved, forgiven, valuable, wanted, honored, and rejoiced over!
  • Unmasking the Enemy Series: One of the reasons the enemy wreaks so much destruction in our lives is that we don’t recognize his work and disarm it. This series shows you how to overcome the enemy by unmasking his tactics.

My Favorite Post (bonus)

  • Our Family Muppet Show: One of my favorite shows growing up was The Muppet Show. My dad bought my kids some Muppet puppets, so we performed our own show, including the Swedish chef, a music number by Miss Piggy, and various humorous scenes.

And there you have it! Those were my most popular blog posts from 2017. If you missed any of them, now you have a chance to see the ones that really resonated with my readers!

Here are my top ten most popular blog posts from 2016:

Hands-on Learning Series:

I baked a series of educational cakes that was highly popular this year. From science and history cakes to literature and math cakes, there was something for everyone! Next time your loved one has a birthday, take a look at one of these original cakes.

I also did a fun series of physics experiments, which included flying pizzas, spinning cookies, and infrared cameras.

Human Anatomy Posts

We studied human anatomy last year both in elementary and in high school. My kids had a ball creating the following hands-on projects, which were highly popular on social media:

High School Post

I wrote a blog post about what I’m using this year for high school homeschool curriculum. Most homeschool bloggers cover elementary, but for some reason they don’t blog about high school as much. I believe this is why this post was so popular this year:

Mixing with the Masters Posts

My kids painted loads of beautiful paintings this year while studying the classical painters. Here were the two posts that got the most attention:

Spiritual Posts

I wrote a lot of spiritual posts last year, especially about how to connect to God through prayer. But my most popular posts, as always, include hands-on ideas:

My Favorite Posts from 2014

Here are my favorite posts from 2014:

I love writing about my walk with God, and my greatest desire is for people to deepen their walk with the Lord. These are my three favorite spiritual posts from 2014:

My family worked really hard to come up with original jokes for two different humor posts that include short videos. I played with some special effects I’ve never used before, and both humor videos included more editing work than any other videos I produced in 2014 (and I produced a lot!) If you’re in the mood to laugh at something corny, go watch these shows:

I really enjoy doing live webinars. I was asked to be a panelist in quite a few webinars in 2014, so these were some of my favorite posts:

I was also interviewed on the Homeschool Leadercast, where I answered a lot of questions about homeschooling. Even though it’s not technically on my blog, I enjoyed this interview:

My Top 10 Most Popular Posts from 2014

Here are my top ten most popular posts from 2014:

Most Popular Bible Posts

My hands-on Bible posts are the top viewed posts from my entire blog. Apparently people want to teach their kids the Word of God, which really encourages my heart!

Most Popular Science Posts

I enjoyed writing two sets of science posts in 2014: one having to do with Earth science and outer space, and the other having to do with chemistry experiments. All of the posts are accompanied by demonstration videos, and therefore both of these sets were in my top 10 most viewed posts in 2014:

Most Popular Unit Study Posts:

My husband had been telling me that I needed to write a series of blog posts about unit studies. The Unit Studies 101 series was born out of that challenge, and they were the hardest posts for me to write because I had to assume that the readers knew nothing about unit studies. To go back to the basics paid off because the series was hugely popular! The other two posts were the most popular actual unit studies during the past year:

Most Popular Missionary Kid Posts

I have to say that I was surprised that these posts did so well because I thought my audience for writing about missionary kids was small. Was I ever wrong! When posting the “Loss and Grief for MK’s,” I was shocked to see over 1,000 unique visitors reading that post during the first two days alone. There was a spike in my stats that was incomprehensible to me, and my MK posts ever since have been hugely popular:
