What I Love About My Husband

January 13th, 2011

  1. what-I-love-about-my-husbandHe loves me! We’ve been through a lot together, and I know that he loves me no matter what.
  2. His love of Scripture is what first attracted me to him. He has a passion for the Truth, and he can eloquently defend the Word of God.
  3. I love his spiritual gift of discernment. He is able to see to the heart of an issue and pinpoint the core of a problem. He is so insightful. Years ago when he was talking to a friend of mine, he pointed out a core problem in their marriage that we were both blind to, and we knew that he was right. When I mention a sin issue of a friend or relative, he will mention what the real issue is and tell me to pray about that instead. My husband would be an outstanding counselor because of this unusual gift.
  4. If he sees a sin in me, he will let me know, and not in an attacking way. He pauses and thinks about how he’s going to say it. I don’t want to sin, so I love the fact that he shepherds me. He uses the Word of God to align my thoughts to Scripture rather than allowing my emotions to rule me. My husband is my compass.
  5. He shepherds my children in an outstanding manner. With the patience of Job, he will gently talk to our children about what they did wrong. He takes more time while disciplining, to make sure the child’s heart has changed. The way he interacts with our children is so phenomenal that someone from our church noticed it years ago. She called him “super dad.” Most people don’t see this side of him because it happens quietly at home.
  6. My husband is honest. He won’t lie no matter what. He is trustworthy and has never broken my confidence.
  7. He is faithful. Even though life has thrown a lot of pain in our direction, he has remained faithful from day one, and I know he is committed to me for the rest of his life. I don’t take this for granted. He could have walked away years ago because of all the emotional baggage I had.
  8. He is a great lover. He isn’t selfish. Making love to my husband is so much fun!
  9. He makes me laugh. Life is full of joy with him. He makes me happy.
  10. I love the fact that he’s deep and philosophical. We can talk for hours about God, the universe, and everything.

Waffle Creations: The Waffle Robot

What waffle creations have you come up with? Even though I’ve owned a waffle iron for years, this is the first time I’ve ever made waffles. (I’ve make pancakes instead because they are easier to clean up. Someone told me you can run the waffle iron under hot water without ruining it, so I decided to give waffles a try.) I thought I would have my kids turn the waffles into robots.

I put lots of toppings on the table, including strawberries, bananas, pears, kiwi, grapes, oranges, blueberries, nuts, raisins, dried cranberries, maple syrup, boysenberry syrup, and whipped cream. As you can see, the children had a ball making their waffle robots with heads, bodies, arms and legs. Since I’m the mother, I had to eat the leftover pieces. I’m not complaining, since, as you can see, the strawberries and bananas made the waffles the best I’ve ever tasted!

Free Online Bible Resources

January 12th, 2011

Bible-resources-1One of the fun Bible resources online to help you and your children love the Bible is the Bible on audio. Max McLean has a deep, luxurious voice as he reads the Bible and brings it to life. Here is the link for free Bible on audio:

http://www.biblegateway.com/resources/audio/

Bible-resources-2Another fun resource is to listen to the Bible in Hebrew or Greek. Back when we were studying Israel, it was fun to hear what Hebrew sounded like. You can choose a familiar Psalm, for example. Now that we are studying Ancient Greece, we can listen to the New Testament in Greek, to see what it sounds like. Here is the link for the Academy of Ancient Languages:

Bible-resources-3If you have young children, you can have your children listen to Bible stories and do other activities that go with the different Bible stories. Here is the link for the Garden of Praise:

Bible-resources-4The last fun link for Bible class would be “Art and the Bible,” which shows lots of famous artwork that goes with Bible stories. If you click on “Old Testament,” and then “Genesis,” you will see the first chapter of Genesis along with five famous works of art, for example. Here is the link:

These are the only four links I have kept in my “Homeschooling: Bible” bookmarks on my computer. I consider them the best in what they have to offer, especially since they are free!

Your Days Are Numbered

January 11th, 2011

your-days-are-numberedOne day it started drizzling as I was driving down the freeway. The roads were slick and slippery. This was back when I lived in Texas, and I was single. I must have been going too fast for the driving conditions, because when I put on my breaks, my car started spinning out of control. It was one of those surreal, slow-motion moments where I knew I was going to die. The car was going way too fast not to slam against the concrete median. But miraculously, it was as if an angelic hand stopped my car abruptly. According to the laws of physics, I should have died that day.

There I was, facing the wrong way on the freeway, off to the side in the middle, you know, where there is not enough space for a car to fit. Cars were flying by at 65 miles per hour. In a shocked daze, I stupidly got out of my car and looked incredulously at the intended point of impact. There was not a scratch on the car. “Get back in the car,” was my only thought.

I got back into the car, looking at the cars zooming so fast in my direction that I thought I was going to be killed. Oh, this entire time, I was crying out to God, I forgot to mention. Miraculously, four lines of traffic slowed down and came to a complete stop to allow me to make a U-turn on the freeway.

When I got home that day, I knew I wasn’t supposed to be alive. I knew God had spared me for some reason. Sometimes when you think your life is over, it’s just the end of one chapter, and there’s lots of book left to read. It was just one of those moments when you ask yourself, have I completed all that I was set on this earth to do? The answer was no. And if you are still alive on this earth, you still have something God requires of you in this life, too. What that is, is up to you and God, but make sure you are fulfilling what God set you on this earth to do, not just letting life go by and wasting it. Because in just the flash of an eye, at any moment, your life could be over. Your days are numbered.

“Teach me to number my days, that I might present to Thee a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12
